'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦਾ ਮਾਣਮੱਤਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ
ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹਰਮਨ-ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਲੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਛੱਪਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ 'ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼' ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਭਾਵੇਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮੁੱਖਧਾਰਾ ਦੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਤਕਰੀਬਨ ਸੌ ਸਾਲ ਬਾਅਦ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਈ ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰੱਥ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੌਮੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਜਿਊਂਦੀ-ਜਾਗਦੀ ਉਦਾਹਰਣ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਹੈ ਜੋ ਕਵਰੇਜ ਅਤੇ ਸਜ-ਧਜ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਕੌਮੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਦਾ ਹਰ ਪੱਖੋਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਤਿਕਥਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
ਉਰਦੂ 'ਅਜੀਤ' 1941 ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਸਿੱਖ ਮਿਸ਼ਨਰੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਤੋਂ ਛੱਪਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਸ: ਅਮਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੁਸਾਂਝ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅੰਬਾਲਵੀ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਕਰਤਾ-ਧਰਤਾ ਤੇ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਇਕ ਛੋਟੇ ਆਕਾਰ ਵਾਲਾ ਚਾਰ ਸਫ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਹਫ਼ਤਾਵਰੀ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕੋਈ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। ਨਵੰਬਰ 1942 ਵਿਚ ਉਰਦੂ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਤੋਂ ਛੱਪਣ ਲੱਗਾ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਉਦੋਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਵਲ ਸਪਲਾਈ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ: ਬਲਦੇਵ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ: ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨਸ਼ਿਪ ਹੇਠ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਸੰਭਾਲਣ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨਿਊਜ਼ ਪੇਪਰਜ਼ ਲਿਮਟਿਡ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ ਦਾ ਗਠਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਸ: ਲਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਮਲਾ ਅਕਾਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਜਲੰਧਰ ਤੋਂ ਛੱਪਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸ: ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਸਨ। ਸੰਨ 1955 ਵਿਚ ਉਰਦੂ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੀ 'ਅਜੀਤ ਪੱਤ੍ਰਿਕਾ' ਵਿਚ ਬਦਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ 1957 ਵਿਚ ਮੁੜ ਬਦਲ ਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਰੱਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਹ ਹੁਣ ਵੀ ਇਸੇ ਨਾਂਅ ਹੇਠ ਛੱਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦੇ ਬਾਨੀ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਡਾ: ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਖਰੀ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਿਭਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ। ਉਹ 29 ਜੁਲਾਈ, 1984 ਨੂੰ ਸਵਰਗ ਸਿਧਾਰ ਗਏ।
ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ, ਹੌਸਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਡਾ: ਹਮਦਰਦ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਛੋਟੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਪੌਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਲ-ਪੋਸ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਵੱਡੇ ਦਰੱਖਤ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਹ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਹੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ 1968 ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ 'ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ' ਦੇ ਐਵਾਰਡ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਡਾ: ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਿਨੋਂ ਹੀ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪੁੱਟੀ ਗਈ ਹਰੇਕ ਪੁਲਾਂਘ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਯਤਨਾਂ ਸਦਕਾ ਹੀ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦਾ ਆਕਾਰ 20×30/4 ਤੋਂ ਵਧਾ ਕੇ 20×30/2 ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਹੋਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿਚ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪਾਈਆਂ ਪੈੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾਇਆ। ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਕਦਮ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਹ ਉਠਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਦੋ ਆਨਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਵਿਚ ਛੇ ਸਫ਼ੇ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਉਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ ਜਦ ਕਿ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਕ ਆਨੇ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ 'ਤੇ ਚਾਰ ਸਫ਼ੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ। ਫਿਰ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦਾ ਪੁਆਇੰਟ ਸਾਈਜ਼ 18 ਤੋਂ 12 ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਦੂਜੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦਾ ਪੁਆਇੰਟ ਸਾਈਜ਼ 8.5 ਹੈ।
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਖਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਪਲੀਮੈਂਟ ਛਾਪਣ ਦੀ ਪਿਰਤ ਵੀ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਈ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਨੇ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਸਪਲੀਮੈਂਟ ਕੱਢਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਇਕ ਜਾਂ ਦੋ ਸਪਲੀਮੈਂਟਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਵਧਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅੱਜਕਲ੍ਹ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਵੱਲੋਂ ਲਗਪਗ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਚਾਰ ਸਫ਼ਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਵੱਖਰਾ ਸਚਿੱਤਰ ਸਪਲੀਮੈਂਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਪਲੀਮੈਂਟ ਖੇਡਾਂ, ਸਿਹਤ, ਨਾਰੀ, ਮਨੋਰੰਜਨ, ਸਿੱਖਿਆ, ਧਰਮ, ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ, ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਆਦਿ ਪੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਟਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਸ: ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਦੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਚਲਾਣੇ ਮਗਰੋਂ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਸ: ਬਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਦੇ ਮੋਢਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਆਣ ਪਈ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਹ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਵਿਚ 'ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਟ੍ਰਿਬਿਊਨ' ਦੇ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਸਨ। ਆਪਣੇ ਤਜਰਬੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ: ਬਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਨੇ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦੀ ਡਿਜ਼ਾਈਨਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੱਗਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਅਤੇ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਨਾਲ ਕਦਮ ਮਿਲਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਹਾਣ ਦਾ ਬਣਾਈ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦੀ ਛੱਪਣ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਅਥਾਹ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੋਇਆ। ਅੱਜ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਹਰ ਇਕ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੀ ਬੈਠਕ ਲਈ ਇਕ 'ਸਟੇਟਸ ਸਿੰਬਲ' ਬਣ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ। 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨੈੱਟਵਰਕ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕਲਪਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਕੌਮੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਦਾ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸ: ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਮਦਰਦ ਟਰੱਸਟ, ਜਿਸ ਵੱਲੋਂ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਛਾਪਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨੇ 1996 ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਮੀਲ-ਪੱਥਰ ਕਾਇਮ ਕੀਤਾ, ਜਦੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਵਿਚ 'ਅਜੀਤ ਸਮਾਚਾਰ' ਵੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਛੱਪਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਖਬਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। 'ਅਜੀਤ ਸਮਾਚਾਰ' ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਰਾਜਾਂ ਜੰਮੂ-ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰ, ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ, ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼, ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਧਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਿਚ ਸਫਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਯੋਗ ਪਾਠਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਨਾਲ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਅਤ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਬੁਲਾਰਾ ਬਣਨ ਦਾ ਮਾਣ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਮਿਆਂ 'ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਡਟ ਕੇ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਹੈ। ਭਾਵੇਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ ਹੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਕਾਰਗਿਲ ਲੜਾਈ ਦਾ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਓਡੀਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੂਫ਼ਾਨ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਹਤ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ, 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੋੜਿਆ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਠਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋਏ ਦਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਨਾਲ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੇ ਹਰ ਸਮੇਂ ਆਫਤ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਉਦਾਹਰਣ ਕਾਰਗਿਲ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਦੋ ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਫੰਡ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੰਡਣਾ ਹੈ।
'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਵੈੱਬਸਾਈਟ www.ajitjalandhar.com ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਕੇ 21 ਜੁਲਾਈ 2002 ਨੂੰ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਦੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ 'ਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਦਮ ਰੱਖੇ। 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਵੈੱਬਸਾਈਟ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਸੀ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਹਰਮਨ-ਪਿਆਰੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਦਾਨ-ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
3 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ, 2007 ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਮੌਰ ਅਖਬਾਰ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਡਾ: ਮਨਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ 'ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਈ ਸਮਾਚਾਰ ਸੰਗਠਨ' (ਇਲਨਾ) ਦੇ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਹਰਿਆ-ਭਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਗੰਧਲੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਜੁਲਾਈ, 2011 ਵਿਚ 'ਅਜੀਤ ਹਰਿਆਵਲ ਲਹਿਰ' ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। 'ਅਜੀਤ ਸਮੂਹ' ਵੱਲੋਂ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ 33 ਲੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਬੂਟੇ ਲਗਾਏ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਇਸ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਵਚਨਬੱਧ ਹੈ।
ਜਨਵਰੀ, 2014 ਵਿਚ 'ਅਜੀਤ ਵੈੱਬ ਟੀ.ਵੀ.' ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਦੇਸ਼-ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਪਸੰਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਵੈੱਬ ਟੀ.ਵੀ. ਦੇ ਚੈਨਲ ਤੋਂ ਖੇਤਰੀ, ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਖ਼ਬਰਾਂ, ਮਨੋਰੰਜਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ, ਫ਼ਿਲਮੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ, ਭਖਦੇ ਮਸਲੇ, ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮੁਲਾਕਾਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਤ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਦਰਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੇ ਇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੂਲ ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। 26 ਦਸੰਬਰ, 2014 ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਵੱਡਾ ਕਦਮ ਚੁੱਕਦਿਆਂ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਅਤੇ 'ਅਜੀਤ ਸਮਾਚਾਰ' ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਤੋਂ ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਮੁਹਾਲੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਧੀਆ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਛਪਾਈ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਮਸ਼ੀਨਾਂ ਲਗਾਈਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ, ਹਿਮਾਚਲ, ਦਿੱਲੀ, ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਰ ਤਾਜ਼ੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਬਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਅਖ਼ਬਾਰ ਮਿਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
'ਅਜੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਨ ਸਮੂਹ' ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਥੀ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵੱਲ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਵਾਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ 'ਅਜੀਤ' ਅਤੇ 'ਅਜੀਤ ਸਮਾਚਾਰ' ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਅਤੇ 'ਅਜੀਤ ਵੈੱਬ ਟੀ.ਵੀ.' ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਣਾ ਬਣੇ ਮਾਣ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ।

Ajit is the name of a continuous struggle and it rather owes its origin to struggle. Guided by this spirit of struggle, this institution has accomplished its long journey of seventy one years and is still continuing. It's journey is like that of a continuously flowing river which has always added to the greenery of its banks, made the land fertile by irrigating it and given life to the flora and fauna on the way - a journey of giving the message of throbbing and flowing continuously, bringing sand and stone from the Himalayan heights and of playing its due role in human development. A journey of flowing downward, giving the message of humility and ultimately expressing its yearning to be one with its own goals and social set up. The Institution Ajit owes all its success and achievements to this unique approach and this achievement belongs to all of you.
A Primary Duty of every person or institution is to contribute to the society, to add to its beauty, and to make a positive contribution towards its development during his or its existence, though however small it may be. The performing of one's duty honestly gives a person mental satisfaction and makes him pulsate. Fortunate are persons or institutions are who rise above selfishness and who work for the betterment of their surroundings and the society. During the long journey of mankind, if so much has been built on this earth and if society has traversed to the advanced levels today, it has been possible due to this kind of positive and vibrant approach. Playing one's role to the best of one's ability as certainly regarded is the most noble deed.
Today, I am grateful from the core of my heart to all my colleagues, who are making solid and valuable contribution in partnership with Ajit Group of Publications in this gigantic task of 'greening' Punjab. Such a contribution is possible only if one enjoys the confidence of the people and they work as a team.
With this kind of effort, you can establish yourself and your institution in the minds of people as they wish it to be. I feel that you have succeeded in this direction with the guidance of spirit and direction of this Institution; that is the reason that you are taken seriously and your sagacity is accepted by the people. I congratulate all of you for this success. I am confident that in the future also, you will conduct yourself with the spirit of oneness and help in accelerating the pace of development of our society elegantly, by contributing your might.
The journey of this struggle began in 1942, when the country was under foreign rule. All sorts of divisive forces were at work. Different types of storms were rising in the religious, political, social and cultural spheres of life in Punjab. It was a period of total chaos and directionlessness. Compared to other languages, Punjabi lagged way behind and Urdu had an upper hand with most of the newspapers of North India being published from Lahore in Urdu. Most of the newspapers seemed to be divided on communal lines, representing different communities. Ajit came into being at such a time.
Ajit was founded with the primary aim to represent the Sikh Community which at the time had no newspaper to express its feelings. A newspaper in Punjabi was the need of the hour to compete with the strong Urdu journalism prevalent at that time. Therefore, the Urdu weekly Ajit which had been brought out some time earlier, was taken over by the 'Punjab Newspapers Ltd', established by S. Baldev Singh, who was a Central Minister before & after independence, both. In November 1942, on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birth day, Daily Ajit (in Urdu) started to publish from Lahore. Dr. Sadhu Singh Hamdard remained associated with this newspaper in one way or the other from the very beginning, as he had a keen desire of becoming a journalist from the early days of his life. Even in his childhood, he had subscribed to the daily Urdu newspaper 'Partap', edited by Mahasha Krishan, a copy of which was delivered everyday to his village by post. He was greatly influenced by Mahasha Krishan and developed interest in reading and thus nurturing his dream of becoming an editor. He thought that this was the only way to address the community and voice it's apirations. The feeling of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat if could be inculcated in the minds of the people and the tides of time could be turned. Thus ‘Urdu Ajit’ under the guidance of Hamdard Sahib, started performing this duty. Akali movement at this time was in full swing and the Ajit provided them vision and direction. Dr. Hamdard's writing made a mark very quickly and he was heard everywhere with rapt attention. There came a time just before partition when almost the whole province of Punjab was being planned to be given to Pakistan. At this moment, Akali leaders like Giani Sher Singh, Master Tara Singh and Giani Kartar Singh in association with Dr. Hamdard raised a strong and determined voice against such a move. Thus, The role of Daily Ajit in retaining the existing East Punjab with India cannot be ignored.
After the Partition, Ajit was first published from Amritsar and then from Jalandhar. It had to face numerous difficulties, but it succeeded in safeguarding its existence with Dr. Hamdard playing a pivotal role. In November 1955 'Punjab Newspapers Ltd.' started Daily Ajit Patrika in Punjabi. Till this time the circulation of daily Punjabi Newspapers was very low and the Akali Newspaper, brought out under the guidance of Master Tara Singh, had a circulation of about 5400 copies only. Another Paper, the Akali Patrika, had a circulation of 2200 copies and Ajit Patrika began with a circulation of 1200 copies. In 1957, its name was changed to 'Ajit' and after that it never looked back. Ajit remained associated in one way or the other with the several religious, social and political movements which began in Punjab after independence. It provided proper direction to all of them.
Whenever the atmosphere was overshadowed with problems of the region, all eyes were fixated on Ajit, which played a positive role and always helped clear these clouds and bring light. It is because of this constructive approach that Ajit has become the most popular daily today. It's strong voice is heard very seriously and appreciated by everyone. Thus, it becomes the duty of Ajit to be ever ready to play its valuable role in the reconstruction and development of this region and promote healthy and positive values of life.
In 1977, Hamdard Sahib established a Trust and handed over the Daily Ajit and all his assets to the Trust, but continued his patronage to it. New machinery was bought for better printing. 'Ajit' grew in popularity among the people of Punjab. National Publicity Companies also leaned towards it. With this, its economy improved handsomely, which gave a fillip to its already blooming growth. By the time of Hamdard Sahib's sudden demise in 1984, Ajit had found a place in the minds of a large section of the Punjabis. Because of Hamdard Sahib's sudden demise, a sort of uncertainty was felt at Ajit. At that time, I was the Editor of the Punjabi Tribune published from Chandigarh. Because of the keen desire of the Trust established by Hamdard Sahib and the feeling of the need of my services to Ajit by all concerned, I had to shoulder the responsibility of the 'Ajit' in August, 1984. Earlier too, I had served as Managing Editor of Ajit from 1968 to 1974. I am happy and take pride in informing you that the Trustees have always adopted a constructive approach in taking the Ajit to greater heights. During Hamdard Sahib's time, as well as after that the eminent personalities who contributed notably to this Institution include Bibi Prakash kaur, Late S. Rawel Singh, Late S. Ajit Singh Sarhaddi, Late S. Dilbagh Singh, S. Prem Singh Advocate, S. Surinder Singh Virdi and S. Joginder Singh. The Institution also receives the cooperation of its well wishers at every step, even today.
In 1996, Ajti established a new milestone in its historic journey by starting Hindi Daily Ajit Named ‘Ajit Samachar’ to further widen the circle its of readership. It was a new and fresh message in the filed of journalism. It is gratifying indeed, that Ajit Samachar, keeping its traditions alive has not only made big strides of the chosen path but has also been discharging its responsibilities in a very effective manner. This newspaper has widened the horizons of the Group. Today, It is successfully hoisting its flag in Haryana, Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir. I do feel that to make it more acceptable, we will need greater and more effective efforts, so that Ajit Samachar may become the companion of the Ajit on an equal footing.
I am happy to share with you that today, inspite of the limited resources, Ajit has been attaining new heights because of your untiring efforts. It is due to this reason alone that Ajit enjoys the envious status as a paper with largest circulation in any language. The popularity of this Group of Publications in the punjabi society is well known to you. In my opinion, such a position has added to the responsibilities of all of us.
Today, the latest techniques are being brought in, to improve the quality of our publications and both the papers have been fully computerized. Worldwide Nesws & Photo Agencies provide services to both the newspapers. In North India, our Group of Publications has 34 sub-offices. All these offices are fully equipped with latest communication facilities and I share my delight with all of you that all our offices are functioning with paramount success. With all the facilities in place, the staff of these offices has been highly successful in investigative reporting.
I am also glad to share with you the fact that the Ajit Website, which was started in July 2002, is running with great success and achieving the goals set forth. It has effectively connected all the Punjabis, living all over the world, with their homeland. Today, a Punjabi sitting in any country of the world has made it his routine to have a look at the Ajit Website each morning to know about the happenings in Punjab. Through the same medium, Ajit also tries to bring out the activities of the Punjabi diaspora for the benefit of millions of readers living here in their homeland.
As I said earlier, the responsibilities of the Ajit and and Ajit Samachar have increased further in the present day conditions. Today our society has to face countless challenges. Despite best efforts, we have lagged far behind in the desired pace of development in the region. Our education and health services are far off the targets. Drug addiction of all kinds has harmed our younger generation grievously by weakening and enfeebling them mentally and physically. Our society seems to be devoid of the most basic of amenities. Our youngsters are badly trapped in the ever expanding web of unemployment and have become directionless like a rudderless boat. Moral values have evaporated and the structure of our society has been imbalanced. Corruption and opportunism in every field has become the way of life and has reached its peak. All this has made the life of a common man very difficult and he feels suffocated. Vis-a-vis, this pollution of all kinds is turning this rose-like blooming land of five rivers into a veritable hell. Blind faith of extreme nature has shaken the mental makeup of most of the people. Worshipping stones, we have gone back to the Stone Age. It is worrisome that instead of declining, this type of conduct is increasing manifold every day. The rays of light are disappearing and darkness is spreading. At this time, being journalists, our responsibilities have increased. We have to perform our duty to spread light in this growing darkness. We have to imbibe the rational spirit. We have to promote human values. We have to stand resolutely against any type of injustice. We have to share the agonies and hardships of the people. By doing so only would we be able to perform our duties towards our profession and have the privilege of becoming the true representatives of Ajit and Ajit Samachar. And by doing so only would we become the true sentinels of the great spirit of the Founder Editor Dr. Sadhu Singh Hamdard and pay him true and pious homage.
